Family Therapy
What is Family Therapy?
Family therapy is a type of treatment designed to help families improve their family dynamics.
Generally, if you have a family therapist, this is not your individual therapist, and the methodologies and the goals will not be the same. However, coordination-of-care with family, group, and individual therapists can help to avoid any misunderstandings or conflicts with treatment goals.
Family therapy focuses on enhancing relationships among family members, improving communication, and repairing any dysfunctional family system. Therapy is most effective when all parties are engaged and apply learned skills in between sessions. Changing the homeostasis of a family can be scary, having a safe space to process is comforting during this adjustment period.
Duration is similar to a group and is generally a set number of sessions.
